Well, I've tried to discourage it before with the teachers, and that wasn't received very well. I'm not saying anyone needs to hide anything, but we've got some kids that are pretty sensitive about these kinds of things, and this is a school. I think sex talk should be saved for e-mails, or at least a more private way like on this journal here. But... people are going to say what they want, and if they really want to discuss all of the details of their sex lives, then, well, I guess they're going to discuss all of the details of their sex lives.
Sex is part of life. Everyone's a teenager, they're all thinking about it. They might be sensitive about it for whatever reason but they should get used to it now because no one outside the school is going to care if you're sensitive about it or not. And yeah if people want to talk about sex they will talk about it. I don't think any of them are young enough, especially with what some of them have gone through, to be called children necessarily.
Yeah, but in how many schools do you hear about what your teacher likes to do in bed? If we want to rag on each other about our personal habits, that's fine, but when we're dragging in third parties like poor old man Manuel up there, we should probably keep in mind that there are other options.
I actually said "we", implying all of us, whether we were actually involved in that particular thread or not. I've been guilty of the same thing in the past, I'll admit, but I'm seeing the point of discretion now. Yeah, the kids'll be exposed to sex in the big bad world and they should be prepared for that. But we - all of us - ought to take into consideration that the journals are as much theirs as they are ours and that they're sharing the space with the teachers as well. They use their private community so they don't freak us out - we probably should think of doing the same. Especially when it comes to bragging about who does what in bed. ;)
And fuck, I feel old now. I should go out and do something rash and stupid to make up for it. ;)
You realise I'm keeping score, yeah? You've currently worked your way up to 'All night party involving a beer bong' on the scale of responsible behaviour to irresponsible behaviour.
Yeah, you've got a point there. Then again, nothing ever starts out with the point being sex. It's easy when it's intentional but I think there's sort of a momentum and by time you realize you maybe should move over here from there it's too late, you're already sliding down the hill too fast.
That and, you know, not everyone has access to this community. Someone like Cammie, for example, only has access to her journal and the general school community.
Oh, I know how that goes. Which is why there's all the smilies and silly icons - I'm not being all scoldy and stuff, I'm just pointing out, fellow grad-person to fellow grad-person.
And Cammie should be - she's just done her GED hasn't she? Let me go do the thing where I get Doug to send out the invite-y thing. And one for Yana as well, since I think she's done with high school by now. Possibly.
So it seem. Apparently while they are busy asserting their right to say anything they please on the journals, they are not respecting the fact that there are people who do not wish to read that sort of thing.
